HB 681 by Rep. Tim Kleinschmidt (R-Lexington) to be heard in House Business and Industry Committee on Monday (2/28)
SB 321 by Sen. Glenn Hegar (R-Katy) to be heard Senate Criminal Justice Committee on Tuesday (3/1)
TSRA Members, it’s time again to make those calls and follow up even if you’ve called before!
The message is Pass this bill with NO industry amendments! Not from USAA (yes, San Antonio insurance company), not from the petrochemical industry, and certainly not from the Texas Association of Business. No carve-outs!
Big Industry and their lawyers are hard at work to amend SB 321 and/or HB 681. If they’re successful, large groups of employees will not be among those who will have the right to defend themselves on the trip to and from the workplace. It could pass and you could still find yourself, out in the cold and unarmed or so outrageously restricted, you won’t use the new law. So, NO Amendments!
Call the House committee members below, be polite and urge these Texas House members to pass HB 681 out of their committee, protecting HB 681 from all Business or Industry amendments. Thank the authors and co-authors but say firmly, “NO amendments! Not in Committee or on the Floor!”
Next, call the Senate committee members below, again be polite and urge these Texas Senators to pass SB 321 out of Senate Criminal Justice Committee with NO Amendments!
As with the House members, thank the Author and Co-Authors but urge them also to resist amendments in committee and later on the chamber floor! NO Amendments!
Your call will make a difference, I wouldn’t ask otherwise.
